When you are investing in property, nothing is more important than the home inspection. Highland Home Inspections lives by its motto — careful, thorough, and complete — and has completed more than 25,000 home inspections in Maryland. Our inspections include not only a well-organized and detailed report within 24 hours, but a verbal explanation of observations and recommendations on the maintenance of your home’s systems while the inspection is taking place. Our experienced inspectors have excellent communication skills and are committed to taking the time necessary to explain issues to you as the inspection proceeds. There is no need for you to take notes; everything our inspectors explain will be included in the report. Meet the team and see a sample report.
We inspect all mechanical and structural systems, the interior and exterior of the house, and walk the roof if it is safe and accessible. Inside the house, we evaluate heating and cooling, plumbing, electrical systems, appliances, fixtures, doors and windows, fireplaces, and chimneys. Not only do we inspect the entire home, we explain everything and answer your questions along the way.
Our customers call us back for the next home or property they purchase. And, home sellers who are in the home watching us work frequently call us for the inspection on the home they are ready to buy. Here are some comments from our customers:
“Your professional services went above and beyond the call of duty!”

Born out of a love relationship with the 100-year-old farmhouse Rick and Ellen Belliveau bought after moving to Maryland, Rick combined his electrical engineering knowledge, US Navy submarine experience, and natural teaching ability to conduct pre-purchase home inspections for friends and relatives. He attended the Property Inspectors Training Institute course and quickly pursued the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) membership and certification while doing many more inspections on a part-time basis. The growing demand for his inspections resulted in a career move from Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory to a full-time inspections service.
HHI now averages more than 1,000 inspections a year. Over the years, it has added inspectors, with a current corps of six trained, certified, and licensed home inspectors, and a full-time office manager to quickly meet callers’ needs.
